Short Code vs. 10DLC Long Code: Which Should You Use?
10DLC works for most use cases. Short codes are better for very high-volume sends.
The right number type depends on your messaging volume, use case, and budget.
10DLC Long Codes
Standard 10-digit numbers registered through the 10DLC framework. Best for most conversational messaging and automation use cases. Lower cost than short codes, with strong compliance when properly registered.
Short Codes
5 or 6-digit numbers with higher throughput. Best for very high-volume, time-sensitive sends such as promotional blasts or one-time passcodes. Higher cost and require a separate registration process.
How to choose:
- Use 10DLC for most sales, marketing, and service automation needs
- Use short codes when you need very high throughput or specific brand visibility at scale
